Biography
Brahm Sheray is a lifelong musician who began
his musical journey at the age of eight. The strong elementary
school music program in Fort Wayne,
Indiana
gave him the opportunity to discover and study the Upright (Double)
Bass, developing his love for all music and the Bass instruments. He
studied privately both on electric and upright and began working
professionally in 1987 at the age of 15.
While continuing to gig at night, Brahm
attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music receiving his Bachelor
of Music in 1995. Throughout his time in
Cincinnati, he worked with all of the areas
most luminary musicians. From the timeless jazz artistry of
guitarist Cal Collins, or the Blue Wisp Big Band featuring Jon Von
Olen to pop rock projects like producer Ric Hordinski’s band Monk
and the 4 Track All Stars. Brahm was also a regular session player
for many of the areas studios such as Group Effort Studios and
Mersey Beat Studios. (See discography)
In 1997, while still in Cincinnati, Brahm found
his first opportunity to be Music Director. The long running Las Vegas based impersonator show “Legends in
Concert” called on him to be Music Director for some traveling
productions. That first call lead to a long association with the
Impersonator/Tribute show industry that still keeps Brahm busy to
this day. Appearing literally around the world, Brahm can be found
working as Music Director
for the finest shows in the tribute market.
The late 90’s brought a change of home base. New York City became his
new home. Continuing to do the impersonator shows on the road, back
home in NYC Brahm focused on jazz gigs and original rock projects.
Indie rock projects like Pillow Theory and songwriters Victoria
Gross and Jacob were only three of his many projects.
Still touring with the impersonators and other
artists, two more moves followed New York. A years stint in Chicago
where Brahm gigged in the private party circuit and recorded for the
indie rock group Unibrow at Electrical audio, produced by Steve
Albini.
Then on to his current home of San Francisco where, when he’s home, Brahm
currently gigs on the local scene. Always a strong supporter of
indie rock and Jazz, he can be found backing Bay Area artists such
as Josh Fix, Saul Kaye, Alex Karweit and Diego’s Umbrella.
